I go to the Buddha for refuge.

I do not perceive, o' monks, even one other thing which when untamed, unguarded, unprotected, and unrestrained, so leads to great harm as this, o' monks, the mind.

Cittaṃ, bhikkhave, adantaṃ, aguttaṃ, arakkhitaṃ, asaṃvutaṃ mahato anatthāya saṃvattatī ti.

The mind, o' monks, when untamed, unguarded, unprotected, and unrestrained, leads to great harm.

…Micchādiṭṭhikassa, bhikkhave, anuppannā c'eva akusalā dhammā uppajjanti, uppannā ca akusalā dhammā vepullāya saṃvattantī ti.

For one of wrong view, o' monks, unarisen, unwholesome qualities arise and arisen, unwholesome qualities expand.

Nāhaṃ, bhikkhave, aññaṃ ekadhammaṃ pi samanupassāmi yena anuppannā vā kusalā dhammā n'uppajjanti, uppannā vā kusalā dhammā parihāyanti yathayidaṃ, bhikkhave, micchādiṭṭhi.

I do not perceive, o' monks, even one other thing by which unarisen, wholesome qualities do not arise or arisen, wholesome qualities diminish as this, o' monks, wrong view.

Micchādiṭṭhikassa, bhikkhave, anuppannā c'eva kusalā dhammā n'uppajjanti, uppannā ca kusalā dhammā parihāyantī ti.

A monk generates desire for the abandoning of arisen, evil, unwholesome qualities; he endeavors, he arouses energy, he applies his mind, he strives.

A monk generates desire for the continuation, non-confusion, increase, expansion, development and fulfillment of arisen, wholesome qualities; he endeavors, he arouses energy, he applies his mind, he strives.

Viriyārambho, bhikkhave, saddhammassa ṭhitiyā asammosāya anantaradhānāya saṃvattatī ti.

Arousing energy, o' monks, leads to the continuation, non-confusion and non-disappearance of the true Dhamma.

Nāhaṃ, bhikkhave, aññaṃ ekadhammaṃ pi samanupassāmi yo evaṃ saddhammassa ṭhitiyā asammosāya anantaradhānāya saṃvattati yathayidaṃ, bhikkhave, anuyogo kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ, ananuyogo akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ.

I do not perceive, o' monks, even one other thing which so leads to continuation, non-confusion and non-disappearance of the true Dhamma as this, o' monks, the application of wholesome qualities and the non-application of unwholesome qualities.

Anuyogo, bhikkhave, kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ, saddhammassa ṭhitiyā asammosāya anantaradhānāya saṃvattatī ti.

Application of wholesome qualities, o' monks, leads to the continuation, non-confusion and non-disappearance of the true Dhamma.
